Can you help me out?

If you find these pages useful you can return the favour by downloading a FREE ebook from Amazon - even if you don't read it, it will help our rankings! I think you'll probably like it though.

It's the first book of a series of 9 books (so far) which tell the story of how life on Earth was saved from a cataclysmic extinction when a rogue planetoid collides with Earth in 7141. This first book deals with how humanity was made immortal, giving us the incentive to do something about an event so far in the future.

Take a touch of humour, add some genetic science and nanotechnology. Steep with conspiracy and stir in murder and despair. Season with romance between three people in a secret location. Garnish with morality.

The result is 'Immortality Gene', the first in a novel series by John and Shelia Chapman. The ebook of book 1 is FREE and available at multiple retailers

Back in 1982 early text only adventure games were being written for home computers. One such game was 'Castle of Riddles' written by Peter Killworth and published by Acornsoft. Now it's been re-written and greatly expanded with added images and sound. Play it on your computer, tablet or even a phone.

Wood

You should make an axe to cut down trees to get wood although it is possible to use a knife. A knife won't last long though.
Each blow with an axe uncreases your experience points. You get 25 Xp using a stone axe, 50 Xp with an iron or steel axe, 75 Xp with a cold steel axe and 80 Xp with a Titanium axe.

Fur, leather, meat and bones

Killing any animal other than bugs will allow you to collect meat, leather and bones. Some also give you fur (even the moas which are birds). The fur provides bedrolls and cold resistant clothing, the leather is used to make tools, clothing, shelters and armour. The meat can be cooked or dried to provide a longer lasting food.   The bones are used to make ground bone which is then used to make other products

Once you've killed an animal, select your knife and hold E to skin the animal and harvest its products. Alternatively you can select a different tool and pick up the animal, carry it to your base and use a skinning table to extract more.

I've written a number of short time travel stories. Each is 99p/99¢ and great for taking a break from gaming.

Fish

There are a number of different fish in the game which can be harvested. Some will attack you but these are easy to kill with a knife. Other fish will run from you and can be caught with a fishing rod or using a bow and arrow which is probably quicker. When using a bow aim directly at the fish making no allowance for refraction. The fish will float to the surface where they can be collected by pressing E. The fish chunks collected can be eaten raw or cooked.

Water

You can drink water from lakes, rivers, streams or pools found in caves. You can also get water from watermellons or berries. If you are using a waterwheel later in the game you'll find it collects sponges which will provide two water.

When you start the game you'll be told your suit is capable of filtering water to keep you safe but later in the game you may find contaminated water gives you dysentery. There are a variety of water purification methods later in the game. One of these is a water filter which can be plugged in to a water plumbing system and uses charcoal as fuel.

Water can be stored in a waterskin (replenishes your water 4 times), a canteen (replenishes your water 20 times) or a thermos. With a thermos you can add coffee beans, cocao beans, gorse flowers or tea to make hot drinks which warm you and boost stamina

Getting water in a cave. The machine here is a biofuel water pump.

Most of the caves contain pools of water. The image above shows a biofuel water pump providing water to a base outside the cave.

Oxite (Oxygen)

Throughout the game you'll need to gather oxite to provide you with oxygen. There are three sources of this:

Deposit Details
Oxite deposit
Ocite stones
Found scattered on the ground as three oxite stones which can be picked up using 'E' (or F if you didn't change that.)
Oxite ore
Oxite ore
An ore rock which needs a pickaxe to collect it.
Deep ore deposit
Deep oxite deposit being extracted by a biofuel deep mining drill
You'll need a biofuel or electric deep-mining drill to extract oxite from these deposits

You'll need to mine ores in the game and then smelt them at your base
