Blueprints

There are some items in Scrap Mechanic which you'll want to use again and again. Rather than repeating the manufacture process every time you need an item it makes sense to save a blueprint of the item which can be called up when needed. Of course you'll have to have the materials needed in your inventory (unless you cheat with an unlimited inventory) but once you have the materials and a blueprint, the item can be made quickly.

One of the items I make for a new game is the Bluebird amphibious vehicle. This is a fast personal transport which will take you over land or water. It features a vacuum pump which will collect water, oil or chemicals and a suckOmatic which will collect caged farmers. You can get instructions for making it here, but once it's complete save it as a blueprint so that it's quicker to make if you start a new game.

Starting Scrap Mechanic

With Bluebird still on the lift, point at the lift shaft and press 'E'. The save creation menu will appear.

Give your creation a name then click the Description tab and enter a suitable description of your blueprint.

You'll note that a complete list of parts needed to construct something from a blueprint is shown.

If you find this guide useful...

Can you help me out?

If you find these pages useful you can return the favour by downloading a FREE ebook from Amazon - even if you don't read it, it will help our rankings! I think you'll probably like it though.

It's the first book of a series of 9 books (so far) which tell the story of how life on Earth was saved from a cataclysmic extinction when a rogue planetoid collides with Earth in 7141. This first book deals with how humanity was made immortal, giving us the incentive to do something about an event so far in the future.

Take a touch of humour, add some genetic science and nanotechnology. Steep with conspiracy and stir in murder and despair. Season with romance between three people in a secret location. Garnish with morality.

The result is 'Immortality Gene', the first in a novel series by John and Shelia Chapman. The ebook of book 1 is FREE and available at multiple retailers

Where are blueprints stored?

Once you have created at least one blueprint, the easiest way to find out is to type

%AppData%
in the search bar. A file window will open which says something like this:
This PC > Local Disc (C:) > Users > [Your username] > AppData > Roaming

In this window click 'Axollot Games' then 'Scrap Mechanic' then 'User' then 'User_[a huge number here]' and finally 'Blueprints'. You'll see a filer window open something like this:

Unfortunately the folders in this window are not named in a format you can understand. Each blueprint is given a unique name by the Scrap Mechanic program. To find the blueprint you want you'll have to open each and then look at the description file. Hopefully you won't have as many as I have.

Or maybe a free online interactive adventure story?

Back in 1982 early text only adventure games were being written for home computers. One such game was 'Castle of Riddles' written by Peter Killworth and published by Acornsoft. Now it's been re-written and greatly expanded with added images and sound. Play it on your computer, tablet or even a phone.

Can you import blueprints into this folder?

Yes you can. You can download a zipped blueprint file, unzip the folder and insert it into the Scrap mechanic blueprint folder without changing the filename. If you want, you can download the blueprint for Bluebird by right clicking this link and saving the link as a file on your computer. Once downloaded, unzip the file and save it in your blueprints folder.

WARNING! It's always wise to check any downloaded files with a virus checking program before unzipping or installing them.

Want a short story instead?
I've written a number of short time travel stories. Each is 99p/99¢ and great for taking a break from Scrap Mechanic.
